Audi // Synchronized Swim
For this striking campaign directed by Johnny Hardstaff, I served as the VFX Supervisor, working closely under the overall VFX Supervision and Creative Direction of Dan Williams. Together, we oversaw the complex assembly of a film that blended practical stunt driving with high-end digital environments to create a seamless, "aquatic ballet."
Although the cars were filmed in a custom-built shallow pool in Ukraine, the final "indoor arena" aesthetic was a feat of digital world-building. My primary challenge was to lead the team in integrating the Audi A1 and A7 into a photorealistic indoor swimming pool environment, which required meticulous attention to the interaction between the vehicles and the digital surroundings. I creatively drove the look and feel of the water—specifically the dynamic splashes, ripples, and surface reflections—to ensure the physics felt grounded and authentic.
The success of the piece relied on this high-level integration of Art Direction and digital world-building. I directed the team through a technical approach that balanced the elegance of the choreography with the gritty reality of the machinery. This collaboration and the resulting visual excellence garnered significant industry acclaim, including a Bronze for Best VFX at the Creative Circle Awards and a Silver for Television Commercial of the Year at the Shots Awards, cementing the project as a benchmark for creative innovation in automotive advertising.
